Accounting
Are you interested in understanding what the numbers mean? A Bachelor of Commerce with a concentration in Accounting is the logical choice for you, however accounting is much more than number crunching. Accountants are business leaders who provide key counsel and strategic leadership, and also support other areas of business that rely on financial data, planning, analysis and valuation.
Sprott’s BCom Accounting concentration is one of only seven CMA-accredited undergraduate programs in Ontario. Our graduates who meet the Certified Management Accountants criteria are exempt from writing the professional entrance exam.
You’ll also complete all of the academic courses required to write the professional entry exams for accreditation as a Chartered Accountant (CA). In addition, co-op hours in an approved placement can count toward the practical experience requirements to become a CA.
Those interested in pursuing a Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation after graduation will also be able to enroll in the pace level of the CGA program.
Superior record of success in professional accounting exams
Sprott students and graduates consistently demonstrate outstanding performance in professional exams. Most recently, two Sprott alumni achieved top honours in the Chartered Accountant’s Uniform Evaluation (UFE) examination. Mathew Burpee (BCom/09) won the 2010 Gold Medal for Western Canada for the highest mark in the region. Adele McGee (BCom/10) joined Mathew on the 2010 UFE Honour Roll, the top 50 of over 3,000 successful writers.
