Participants

The MDPW is designed for working women. Each participant must have worked three or more years in:

  • first line or higher levels of management, or
  • a professional position, or
  • a pre-management position which provides exposure to management issues.

Participants should be experienced members of the workforce who wish to pursue or advance a career in management. Diversity is encouraged and participants will likely be at different stages in their careers and their educational background will inevitably vary.

To successfully complete the program participants must be prepared to spend an average of 9 hours per week during the 10 months of the program to complete required readings and assignments and make a commitment to participate in class discussion.

Sponsors

Participants must be sponsored for admission to the program.

Sponsors play a dual role. They can support the candidate financially, and/or  in a mentoring relationship. One person may assume both roles or two sponsors may be selected. Most participants are sponsored by their employing organization. However, a candidate may be sponsored by a manager who is familiar with the candidate and her work.

Sponsors are encouraged to become partners in the learning process, providing the necessary support for the candidate to carry out the workplace based assignments. These assignments can be shaped to meet the needs of the sponsoring organization.

Donors

The Leacross Foundation partners with the Centre for Research and Education on Women and Work (CREWW) by making bursaries available for the Management Development Program for Women (MDPW). The bursaries are open to women from a diversity of backgrounds who would not otherwise receive funding for this training. Candidates must be employed in the not-for-profit, technology or trades sectors or be a small business owner.
