Admission Requirements

Full-time Stream

  • Honours bachelor’s degree with minimum B average
  • GMAT minimum score of 550
  • Work experience not required
  • Proficiency in English

Part-time Stream

  • Honours bachelor’s degree with minimum B average
  • GMAT minimum score of 550
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time professional management work experience
  • Proficiency in English

NOTE:  For applicants to the International Development Management concentration, an introductory course in economics is strongly recommended.

Professional experience is defined as positions which include managing or supervising team members and may include responsibility of a large portion of a project life-cycle; managing time, budget and resources; leading a team in developing needs assessments, processes, and delivery options; strategic and financial planning; or collaboration with key stakeholders.

Step-by-Step Application Process

1.  Complete the online Application Account Request Form.

Once you have completed and submitted the application account form, you will receive an email notification from the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) within a few minutes containing your application account information.

2.  Arrange for application fee payment.

Please note that a non-refundable application fee of $100 CAD is payable to the Ontario Universities Application Centre by Visa, MasterCard, internet banking, cheque or money order. Instructions regarding payment options can be found when you log onto your OUAC account online.  Applications will not be processed without the application fee.

If paying by cheque or money order you must include your OUAC reference number and mail payment to: OUAC Fees Department, 170 Research Lane, Guelph, Ontario N1G 5E2

3.  To complete your application, you need to provide:

A.  Two signed copies of the application form downloaded from OUAC.

B.  GMAT – A MINIMUM score of 550 is required to apply for the Sprott MBA.

  • We strongly encourage applicants to register as quickly as possible with the GMAT test centre as it can take several weeks to receive test scores.
  • The Sprott School of Business requires that ALL APPLICANTS submit GMAT test scores, regardless of degrees attained or years of professional work experience.
  • The GRE does not substitute for the GMAT.
  • For test and location information please refer to www.mba.com. Our Institution Code for the full-time MBA program is 36KNQ57 and for the part-time MBA is 36KNQ32.
  • Potential MBA candidates who do not have an academic background in business or do not have strong quantitative skills, are encouraged to take at least one module from the four offered through the MBA Survival Kit.
  • Official scores are mailed to the university by the organization that administers the GMAT.

C.  English Proficiency Test

  • If the language of instruction in your previous degree was not English, you will be required to meet the minimum language admission requirements by submitting your test score in either the TOEFL, CAEL or IELTS English proficiency tests.
  • CAEL minimum score required is 60
  • TOEFL IBT minimum score is 87 (with a minimum of 22 in each component)
  • IELTS overall band score minimum of 6.5 and a minimum of 6.0 in each band score

D.  References

  • For applicants with less than four years of professional work experience, two academic references are required. Academic reference forms can be downloaded from the website.
  • For applicants with minimum four years of professional work experience and who have been outside of academia for more than four years, two professional letters of reference from superiors are required. Professional references must be on company letterhead.
  • Academic and professional references should be sent by the referees directly to the MBA Promotions and Admissions Officer (refer to address below).

E.  Academic Transcripts

  • Two sets of official transcripts of your university record to date are to be forwarded directly from the institution to the MBA Promotions and Admissions Officer (refer to address below).

F.  Supplement to Application Form

  • The Supplement to Application Form can be downloaded from your OUAC account page. On this form, you will indicate your concentration of choice.

G.  Resume

5.  Notification of Acceptance

Complete applications for both domestic and international students will be processed on a rolling basis. You will be notified in writing once a decision is made.

Accepting your offer is a two part process.  You will receive an email of your offer of admission from the Faculty of Graduate Studies that will include an electronic copy of your Statement of Standing on Admission.  They will send you the original in the mail.  In this email they will give you instructions on accepting your offer through Carleton Central online.

You will also receive an email from the Sprott School requesting you send in your acceptance and a non-refundable Tuition Deposit that is credited to your student account once you are registered in your courses.
