Admissions
Students are admitted as a cohort each year. Applications are accepted only once each year. Admission to the program is judged primarily on:
- the applicant’s ability to successfully undertake advanced studies in business,
- the individual’s prospects for successful and timely completion,
- work experience, and
- evidence that the applicant can contribute materially to the overall learning experience.
Minimum Requirements for Eligibility
- Four-year / Honours Bachelor degree with a minimum average of B (i.e. 73%)
- GMAT scores and demonstration of English language proficiency:
- All applicants holding a Chinese degree may complete four preparatory courses* with a grade of B or higher, in lieu of the GMAT and TOEFL
- A minimum of two years professional or management experience**.
* Four preparatory courses: Economics, Quantitative Methods, Information Technology and Business Communication. These courses will be delivered for each cohort by Donghua University. Please contact jingzhou@dhu.edu.cn for a schedule and associated fees for your potential cohort.
**Applicants who cannot demonstrate a minimum of two years professional or management work experience may be admitted, but will be required to find and successfully complete an approved 16 week internship placement.

Application Process
1. Download and complete the application form.
Please answer all questions, as your application will not be processed if the application form is incomplete.
2. Write a personal statement of academic interest and ambitions
When writing your personal statement, please be aware that Carleton University has strict rules about plagiarism. We recognize that you may view a variety of resources in order to guide you in how to write your personal statement. However, cutting and pasting excerpts from these resources to create a personal statement is not permitted and will result in your application being denied. Your ‘personal’ statement is just that – ‘personal’.
3. Provide two references (Download and complete referee form)
Academic references are required for applicants with less than four years of work experience. Please ask your referee to fully complete the form and provide additional comments to support their recommendation (section V). The form should be stamped with the official university stamp, or supported with a written letter of reference on a separate sheet of university letterhead.
Professional references can be submitted only by those who have been outside of academia for more than four years. Professional references must be on company letterhead.
4. Submit official academic transcripts and proof of conferral of degree
Provide original copies of your official transcripts along with an official translation of the transcript document.
Provide an original certificate showing that your degree was conferred / awarded, along with an official translation of this document.
5. Provide proof of identity
Provide a photocopy of your government issued ID or passport.
Provide two passport-sized photographs.
6. Submit resume
Provide an up-to-date copy of your resume.
Applicants with more than two years professional or management experience must also submit an employer reference letter on company letterhead confirming job title, responsibilities and length of employment. The Sprott School of Business has the right to verify your employment with your employers.
Applicants who CANNOT demonstrate more than two years professional or management experience will be required to complete a 16 week internship – BUSI 5999 [1.0 credit] in addition to their MBA program requirements.
7. Submit GMAT scores (or register for preparatory courses if required)
Applicants who have completed in English medium institutions
Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree at an English medium university are required to provide GMAT scores.
Applicants who have completed in China
Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree in China will be required to take four preparatory courses in lieu of the GMAT and to demonstrate language proficiency. Suitably qualified applicants will be conditionally admitted and must then pass all four courses with a grade of ‘B’ or higher BEFORE the program courses commence. Donghua will forward preparatory course grades to Carleton University
Applicants who do not have an academic background in business or do not have strong quantitative skills, are encouraged to take at least one module from the MBA Survival Kit.
