Benjamin Cimon


Portfolio Manager

BCom – Finance and Accounting, Co-op, Spring 2012

Ben is currently in his third year on the fund and his second as the Portfolio Manager. He recently completed a Co-op work term as a Power and Fuels Market Analyst with Brookfield Asset Management where he provided analytic support for valuing targeted assets. Ben looks forward to writing his CFA level I exam in December 2011 and is hoping to graduate with highest honours in May. In the future Ben wishes to pursue a career in financial analysis and is looking to land a position on Bay Street upon graduation. In the free time he has, Ben enjoys football, skiing, golfing and traveling with friends.

 Daniel Goulding

Macro and Special Project Analyst

MBA – Financial Management, Fall 2012

Daniel is entering his first year with The Fund and is joining as the Macroeconomic and Special Project Analyst. Daniel graduated with a BA in Economics (with a concentration in international development) from Dartmouth College in the spring of 2009 and is currently pursuing an MBA in Financial Management at Sprott. While at Dartmouth, Daniel was recipient of two ECAC all-academic team awards as well as receiving two designated scholarships. Upon graduating, Daniel wishes to pursue a research and analysis career focusing on emerging markets.

Mike Powell

Sector Manager

MBA – Financial Management, Fall 2012

Mike Powell is a first year MBA student joining us in April 2011 from Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula. This is Mike’s first year on the Fund and was recently appointed as a Sector Manager. Prior to being promoted to Sector Manager, Mike enjoyed a brief stint as an Energy Analyst where his research focused on offshore drillers, as well as the Sector Manager for Basic Materials. An active trader, he is extremely interested in derivatives and has five years experience both buying and writing stock options. He is a Level 2 Candidate in both the CFA and FRM programs. Mike also has a keen interest in advanced mathematics and economics, contemporary literature, folk music and Newfoundland history.

Greg Sharpe


Sector Manager

BCom – Finance, Spring 2012

This will be Greg’s third year on the fund and his first year as a Sector Manager where he is currently focusing on the information technology sector. Greg will bring a fresh perspective to the table this year after having worked this past summer as a research analyst at the Department of Finance, working mainly on helping with Canada’s negotiation of a free trade agreement with the European Union. He wishes to pursue his CFA and work in investment analysis or on the trading desk for a large bank upon graduation in 2012.

Matt Cimon


Sector Manager

BCom – Finance, Minor in Economics, Spring 2012

Matt is in his Final year at Sprott and will be graduating this spring with a degree in Finance and a Minor in Economics. This is Matt’s second year on The Fund and he became a Sector Manager this past summer during which he helped lead the Basic Materials team. Due to Matt’s interest in value investing, he is currently heading up research on various high-yield industries. Matt is also the Co-President of the Sprott Finance Students’ Association and is the President of Ottawa’s largest international fraternity, TKE. In his spare time Matt enjoys snowboarding, football and playing hockey.

Richard Schmidt

Sector Manager

BCom – Finance, Spring 2012

Richard is entering his second year on The Fund and his first as a Sector Manager after being promoted this past fall. In the summer, Richard worked in the Investment Management and Strategy division of MD Physician Services where he provided analytic support to the financial analysts and managers. This year he has also been promoted to Teacher’s Assistant Coordinator and is part of the Sprott Finance Student Association, where he fills the role of VP Internal. As part of the SFSA, he is tasked with co-organizing finance-oriented events such as economic panel discussions and the SFSA wine and cheese.  Richard will be writing his CFA Level I in June.

 Kyle Stanley

Equity Analyst

BCom – Finance, Summer 2012

Kyle joined The Fund during the Spring 2011 recruitment period, and had already spent time analyzing the Information Technology and Consumer Goods sectors. He spent this past summer working as a Corporate Finance Intern at Freebalance Inc where he assisted in the preparations of quarterly financial statements and provided support to Senior Accountants within the company. Kyle plans to write the CFA Level I exam in June 2012 and aspires to work in the financial industry in the near future. Kyle is also a Defenceman on the Carleton Ravens Men’s Hockey team, in which he is currently competing in his third CIS season.

 Sydney Van Vierzen

BCom – Finance, Spring 2013

This will be Sydney’s first year on The Fund after joining the team during the fall recruitment process. This year he is hoping to gain some valuable insight into the finance industry from like minded students as well as industry professionals. He is aspiring to move up to a manager position next year and will be looking to begin the CFA program as soon as possible. Sydney’s plan is to continue working hard right through graduation and eventually secure a prominent position in the finance industry. Outside of school, Sydney enjoys skiing, cooking and spending time with friends.

Yumun Sisalem

Equity Analyst

This will be Yumun’s first year on The Fund, having joined the team this past April. She has recently completed a summer internship at the National Commercial Bank in Saudi Arabia, focusing on Corporate Banking and Treasury Management. She is currently on the Finance team of the Jeux de Commerce (JDC) Central case competition, is a Teaching Assistant and a Residence Fellow. Upon graduation Yumun plans on pursuing the CFA designation and aspires to experience the financial industry in at least three continents: North America, Europe and Asia.

Eric Crowley

Equity Analyst

BCom – Finance and Acounting, Spring 2013

Eric joined The Fund during the Spring 2011 recruiting period and has gained exposure to both the Technology and Basic Materials sectors as an analyst. His primary motive for joining The Fund was to learn the skills that are required by successful analysts and portfolio managers. Within just four months of joining The Fund Eric saw one of his recommendations included into The Fund’s portfolio. During the school year he is working part-time at RBC and has both a CA and CFA designation in his post-graduation plans. In his down time Eric also finds time for hockey, golf and restoring classic wooden boats.

Cassie Reaburn

BIB – International Finance, Economics Minor, Spring 2013

This is Cassie’s first year with The Fund and she is looking forward to gaining experience in investment management. Cassie has been studying Spanish and will be leaving for Argentina this upcoming January for her year abroad as part of the BIB program. This past year she was VP of Finance for a Latin American humanitarian student group at Carleton and she has received multiple international exchange scholarships. Cassie is interested in environmental sustainability and in her free time she enjoys cooking, dancing and playing volleyball. She also has a passion for culture and traveling, and plans to pursue an international career after graduating.

Matt Rose

Equity Analyst

BCom – Finance, Spring 2012

Matt joined The Fund this past September during the Fall recruiting period. He spent this past summer working as a Business Process Analyst for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, where he assisted in the development and testing of various databases. Matt is looking forward to graduating this Spring and writing his CFA Level I exam in June 2012. In the future Matt wishes to pursue a career in financial analysis and will have his eyes firmly set on Toronto after graduating. Matt is also an automobile enthusiast who builds and races his own cars in his free time. His other hobbies include snowboarding, mountain-biking and spending time at the cottage with friends and family.

Zhihao Aaron Chen

BCom – Finance and Accounting, Spring 2013

This will be Aaron’s first year on the fund after joining the team this past September. He is looking forward to gaining more practical experience in investment management over the next couple of years and is currently analyzing high yield investments for The Fund. Aaron is also involved in the Sprott Mentor Program and Sprott Ambassador Program to help enhance his leadership skills.  Aaron was on the Dean’s Honor List in 2010-2011 and he plans to pursue his CFA and CA designations after he obtains his undergraduate degree. When Aaron does get some down time he enjoys swimming, photography, and traveling.

Le Minh Ha

BIB – International Finance and Banking, Spring 2014

This is Minh’s first year with The Fund and is in the second year of the Bachelor of International Business (BIB) program. He was on the Dean’s Honour List for the 2010-2011 academic year. Currently, Minh is an executive member of Carleton University Japanese Association and is also involved with AIESEC Carleton as a member of the finance team. Next year, he will be spending a year abroad in Japan as a part of the BIB program. After graduation, Minh is planning to pursue a Master’s of Finance degree. In his free time, he enjoys photography and guitar jam sessions with his friends.

Shaun McGeough

Equity Analyst

BIB – International Finance and Banking, Spring 2014

Shaun is one of the youngest members of The Fund this year and is proud to be part of the team in just the second year of his degree. He is on the Dean’s Honour list and is also working part time as a Teaching Assistant. Shaun will be going on a one year exchange to China next year as part of the BIB program and will be returning the following year to complete his program at Carleton. He recently completed the Canadian Securities Course and plans on taking the CFA following graduation. In his free time, Shaun enjoys reading, games and traveling.
